James Cook University (JCU), founded in 1970 in Townsville, Queensland, is a large public higher education institution with branches in Cairns, Brisbane, Singapore, Mackay, Beijing, Thursday Island, Mt Isa, and Fiji. Hosting approximately 10,000-15,000 students, it provides a substantial variety of courses leading to pre-bachelor's, bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees.
